Grapes can be a choking hazard

Doctors have issued a warning that young children can choke on whole grapes and that food is responsible for over half of fatal choking accidents.

The size and shape of grapes means they can completely block a child’s airway; so it is recommended that grapes should be cut in half lengthways and ideally cut in quarters.

Further information on choking prevention can be found on the Child Accident Prevention (CAPT) website.
